Alina Ustimkina/Nikita Volodin (RUS), 2016 ISU JGP Tallin silver medalists
Ustimkina: It was very good; there were some small issues, like getting a level 3 for the twist when we should get a 4, but the atmosphere was great, we could feel the warmth and the noise all around us and it felt great. (On the Final) All competitions are the same, you always need to prepare well and then get over the nerves and focus and this competition is no exception.
Anastasia Mishina/Vladislav Mirzoev (RUS), 2016 World Junior silver medalists
Mirzoev: Skating to a rumba was our coach Nikolai Velikov’s idea. It’s different but we got used to it pretty quickly.
Mishina: We’re really pleased but of course it is too early to congratulate us! Now our main aim is to skate the free program cleanly, which is a bit more complicated. Although we are quite new (as a pair) we definitely feel like one.
Anna Duskova/Martin Bidar (CZE), 2016 World Junior Champions
Duskova: It could have been better. I messed up the landing on the twist. We can do a really good twist. Last season we worked on the technical scores and this season we’re working on the components. They’re important for going on to senior competitions because senior pairs have more experience. (on improving on last year’s silver medal) I think we’re just going for improving our scores and our season’s best.
Amina Atakhanova/Ilia Spiridonov (RUS), 2015 ISU Junior GP Final bronze medalists
Atakhanova: We’ve lost two weeks because I’ve had a problem with my back – it’s just age, it’s because I’m growing. But it means we haven’t skated the program a lot, so we made a bad mistake today (fall on the throw triple Lutz). (On competing in their second Grand Prix Final) I have definitely found the second time harder. This was much more difficult than our first Final for me.
Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya/Harley Windsor (AUS), ISU JGP Tallin Champions
Windsor: It was a bit of a last-minute thing that we came here and to be honest it’s a bit overwhelming. We’re in the hotel and seeing some of the top skaters in the world, people I used to watch on television and it’s all too much to take in. Last week we had Australian Nationals and just days later we came here. We’re really jet-lagged but we had a big sleep yesterday. It’s not fun flying 30 hours to get here but it’s alright. It’s only a three-minute program and then a four minute program.
Aleksandra Boikova/Dmitrii Kozlovskii (RUS), 2016 ISU JGP Saransk silver medalists
Kozlovskii: Honestly I don’t know what happened. We can do everything in that program. There have been difficulties like illnesses, but that doesn’t explain, there were just silly mistakes like in the lift. (on competing in their first Junior Final) There is pressure, mostly psychologically, because the other pairs are so experienced.
